EWB-Northeast Region (NER) workshop for this year will be held in Pittsburgh during Nov 5-7, 2010 and will be hosted jointly by Pittsburgh Professional, University of Pittsburgh, and Carnegie Mellon chapters. The workshop includes 10 states of Northeast which constitute 61 established chapters (46 student, 15 professional). The workshop is open to non-EWB, non-NER members. It is a great oppurtunity to learn what EWB is doing around the world, network with many engineers, attend career fair, enjoy great food and have fun.
The workshop schedule includes - Nov 5th, Friday evening in CMU, Nov 6th Saturday in Pitt, and Nov 7th Sunday in CMU.
If you are interested in being a part of the organizing team, you can join one of the seven sub-committees:
CMU Facilities & Food sub-committee: Facilities : Works as a liaison between Workshop and Universities, ensures proper rooms are available at required times with proper electronic equipment (project, screen, microphones, video equipment), maintenance contacts, and ensures tables & chairs are ready for registration, career layout and flow from on session to the next are clear. Works with other sub-committees as needed or required by committee.
Food: Addresses all menu issues for Friday (informal) dinner and Sunday continental breakfast. Works with Budget committee on menu budget. Works with facilities committee on table & room needs. Works with other sub-committees as needed or required by committee.
Pitt Facilities & Fod sub-committee: Facilities : Works as a liaison between Workshop and Universities, ensures proper rooms are available at required times with proper electronic equipment (project, screen, microphones, video equipment), maintenance contacts, works with Sponsors (Career Fair ) on layout and ensures tables & chairs are ready for registration, career layout and flow from on session to the next are clear. Works with other sub-committees as needed or required by committee.
Food: Addresses all menu issues for Saturday continental breakfast, lunch and formal dinner. Works with Budget committee on menu budget. Works with facilities committee on table & room needs. Works with other sub-committees as needed or required by committee.
Fundraising/sponsors sub-committee: Committee works as a liaison between EWB and all workshop sponsors. Works with EWB to invite companies to sponsor the Fall workshop. Works with or can be combined with Career Fair committee. Works with all other sub-committees as need or required by committee.
Workshop Budget sub-committee: Keeps budget and registration fees, works with all other sub-committees, collect all sub-committee quotes, set budge goals, works closely with sponsors & food committees. Works with all other sub-committees as need or required by committee.
Workshop Speakers/Break-out Sessions sub-committee: Committee works as a liaison between Workshop and EWB to invite all speakers, during workshop organizes all speakers, MC, room volunteers (video recording), break-out sign postings, directions, etc. as needed, thank you notes, etc. Works with other Sub-Committee as needed or required by committee.
Workshop Green: This committee works creatively to create and promote an overall Green workshop, this committee will work with all other sub-committees to address any and all possible waste-reduction, recycling, energy conservation, etc. (if possible, will investigate and work with local area Pittsburgh organizations on possible composting and facilitate/organize the exchange). Works with all other sub-committees as need or required by committee.
NER Chapter Relations: This committee will creatively promote networking and NER chapters during the workshop, this committee will organize chapter poster presentation, (ideas already submitted include: Chapter Picture presentation – project/screen on-going during the workshop, chapter videos, NER ‘sell your EWB gear” booth, project/world region seating during meals, etc). Works with all other sub-committees as need or required by committee.
Workshop Career Fair: Works with the fundraising/sponsors, this committee works on organizing the career fair. This committee also works to invite with other like-minded non-profits or professional engineering groups to participate in the career fair booths. Works with facilities committee to ensure room, tables, and chairs are all available for career fair participants, Works with all other sub-committees as need or required by committee.

Note: You are not required to be a EWB-member or NER-member to attend workshop or to volunteer.
